“Janamejaya said, ‘Please recite the names of
Dhritarashtra's sons according to the order of their birth.’
“Vaishampaayana said, ‘O king (Janamejaya), their names
according to the order of birth, are Duryodhana, Yuyutsu, Duhshaasana, Duhsaha,
Duhshala, Jalasandha, Sama, Saha, Vinda and Anuvinda, Durdharsha, Subahu,
Dushpradharshana, Durmarshana, Durmukha, Dushkarna, Karna; Vivimsati, Vikarna,
Sala, Satwa, Sulochana, Chitra and Upachitra, Chitraksha, Charuchitra, Sharaasana,
Durmada, Dushprgaaha, Vivitsu, Vikata; Urnanaabha and Sunaabha, then Nandaka
and Upanandaka; Chitrabaana, Chitravarma, Suvarma, Durvimochana; Ayobahu, Mahabahu,
Chitranga, Chitrakundala, Bhimavega, Bhimabala, Balaaki, Balavardhana, Ugraayudha;
Bhimakarma, Kanakaaya, Dridhaayudha, Dridhavarmaa, Dridhakshatra, Somakirti,
Anoodara; Dridhasandha, Jarasandha, Satyasandha, Sada, Suvak, Ugrasrava, Ashwasena,
Senani, Dushparajaya, Aparaajita, Panditaka, Vishaalaaksha, Duraavara;
Dridhahasta, Suhasta, Vatavega, and Suvarchasa; Adityaketu, Bahvaashi,
Nagadanta, Agrayayi; Kavachi, Paashi, Dandadhaara, Dhanurgraha; the heroes,
Ugra and Bhimaratha, Viraa, Virabaahu, Alolupa; Abhaya, and Raudrakarma, and
Dridharatha; Anaadhrishya, Kundabhedi, Viraavi, Dhirghalochana, Pramatha, and
Pramathi and the powerful Dhirgharoma; Dirghabaahu, Mahabaahu, Vyudhoru,
Kanakadhvaja; Kundaashi and Viraja.
“Besides these hundred sons, there was a daughter
named Duhshala. All were heroes and Atirathas, and were well-skilled in
warfare. All were learned in the Vedas, and all kinds of weapons. O king (Janamejaya), worthy wives
were in time selected for all of them by Dhritarashtra after proper examination.
King Dhritarashtra, O monarch (Janamejaya), also gave Duhshala, in proper time and with proper rites, upon
Jayadratha (the king of Sindhu).’”
